In Before the Storm

Shrimp boats are a common site around St. Augustine, Florida, where they fish all night and pass through the inlet at dawn or dusk. The boats have a constant escort of seabirds that are drawn to the trawlers by the disposal of the bycatch organisms the fishermen dump overboard. Shrimp boats are uncomfortable in stormy seas, however, and early morning storms will often chase the fleet back into safe harbor as the captains try to fish for as long as possible before racing the wind.
