The wood stork is one of the largest and most impressive birds in the southern United States. This impressive wading bird has a wrinkled, featherless, vulture-like head with a large, heavy bill that contrasts with clean, crisp black and white plumage. They appear awkward and ungainly on the ground, but majestic in flight where they are often seen soaring up rising air currents on a circular path.
