The American wood stork is the only stork species in the United States. It is a large, graceful wading bird that can be found throughout Florida and the coasts of Mexico and Central America year-round, but during the warmer months some birds will migrate to breed as far north as Arkansas and the Carolinas. Up close, this stork's naked, wrinkled head and neck suggest a long-beaked vulture. Its large and contrasting black and white wings make it unmistakable in flight.
